Vancouver Does Dining Right

Don’t tell the rest of Canada, but Vancouver has solidified its reputation as the country’s dine-out capital. With Asian cuisine to rival the best in the world, unforgettable local seafood, inventive French delicacies, and more – it’s always cheat day in Vancouver.

The formula for Vancouver’s food scene’s success is too long to list, but there are a few key features that make it stand out.

Fresh

Vancouver’s culinary context couldn’t be better. Set by the sea and framed by forests and farmland, Vancouver restaurants take pride in the freshness and sustainability of their food.

Varied

Vancouver’s food scene is filled with multicultural flavours. Because of this, it also offers options for every budget. Street food junkies and high-end brunchers will both feel welcome in this world-class ‘chef’s city.’

Vibrant

Best of all, Vancouver delivers all of this with no pretension. Fun is a primary focus of the dining scene, and something people all over the world return to Vancouver time and time again to experience. Stylish fine dining experiences and sleek lunch spots abound in Canada’s culinary capital.

So, without further adieu: the best restaurants Vancouver locals and tourists can’t get enough of.

Most restaurants in the downtown core offer a variety of delivery options. Look for them on: SkipTheDishes (SD),  Foodora (FO), UberEats (UE) , DoorDash (DD), JustEat (JE), and LazyMeal (LM)

GUU

A Japanese Izakaya with four downtown locations

Guu serves home style Japanese food in a loud and electric atmosphere. Food is served from an open kitchen and the dishes are generally tapas-sized.

“This is a short trip to Tokyo. Leave your worries behind.”

La Provence

French/Mediterranean. 1177 Marinaside Crescent, Vancouver, BC V6Z 2Y3

Jean Francis and Alessandra Quaglia, both chefs, met in France while brushing shoulders in the kitchen of several premier hotels. Romance and marriage followed soon after. They worked together again in Vancouver at the Wall Center Hotel. In December 1997 they bravely embarked upon a project called Provence Mediterranean Grill. The restaurant won Gold for Best Bistro in the 2002 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards. Building on their success, and wishing to share their love of French/Italian cuisine in a comfortable atmosphere, they bring you Provence Marinaside on Vancouver’s trendy Yaletown waterfront. Beautiful, flavorful food without pretense. What more could you ask for?

Vij’s

Indian Fusion. 3106 Cambie St, Vancouver, BC V5Z 2W2
A fitting introduction to the world of Vancouver food is Vij’s, easily among the finest Indian restaurants in the world. Vikram Vij, who works the front of the house (his wife, Meeru, runs the kitchen), is a man of taste, and it shows immediately in the furnishings (you can’t miss the museum-quality teak door), the place settings (all the pottery is handmade in Vancouver) and the food.

“The menu changes frequently, but it’s hard to go wrong.”

Cardero’s

Seafood and Chophouse, 1583 Coal Harbour Quay, Vancouver, BC V6G 3E7

Like many Vancouver pubs, Cardero’s takes advantage of its waterside locale by serving fresh seafood (including great oysters!) and offering a nautical-themed decor. Its comfy interior invites folks to linger, which isn’t hard to do at all, considering the place’s appetizing selection of pub fare and its great drinks. Bolstering all of that appeal are wonderful views of the harbor and the terrain beyond. The adjacent restaurant serves creative, affordable, and upscale cuisine. Cardero’s features a great outdoor patio and live entertainment too.

Go Fish- Fish n Chips/Fish Tacos

Fish ‘n Chips and Fish Tacos. 1504 West 1st Ave (Outdoor Location at False Creek Seawall) or 1521 West Broadway (Indoor Location)

This brilliant blue corrugated steel shack beside False Creek regularly puts out a variety of fried fish including cod, salmon and halibut, accompanied by crispy chips and a tangy slaw with a hint of Asian dressing. On any given day you’ll find devotees lining up to order and sit at the outdoor picnic tables that create the “dining room,” even when the temperature dips.

The secret? Light, non-greasy batter using local beer from the Granville Island Brewery and fish so fresh they’re practically still flopping.-10best.com

In addition, the space echos the beauty of Tuscany, Italy, with warm earth colours and beautiful wooden beams that line the ceiling. The outdoor garden patio features fresh seasonal flowers and lush greens.
