Returning Home for International Guests

Most travelers by land or air must provide negative laboratory COVID-19 molecular polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or Antigen results taken within 72 of their scheduled air departures from Canada. There are no exceptions for travelers who are partially or fully vaccinated.

You should be prepared to spend a few hundred dollars on pre-flight COVID-19 tests to leave Canada to return to home.

Most countries around the world require travelers to present a negative test result, regardless of vaccination status, to enter the country. While the rules vary around the world, it is generally safe to assume there will be a testing requirement.

PCR is the gold standard used to get into Canada and abroad to diagnose active COVID-19 infection in patients with symptoms that was required by you to get into Canada

These tests are considered acceptable molecular tests:

  • PCR – Polymerase chain reaction
  • Nucleic acid test (NAT) or Nucleic acid amplification test (NAATs)
  • Reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP)

CVM Medical Pre-Departure testing at YVR

CVM Medical will provide rapid antigen testing for ticketed passengers departing for the United States, the Netherlands, Germany and other countries accepting the test. Passengers without boarding passes should check-in with their airline before proceeding to the testing site. Passengers connecting from a domestic flight will need to exit the secure area to access the testing facility.

  • For: Ticketed passengers travelling to the Netherlands, Germany, the United States or other countries that accept this test who must take a rapid test shortly before departure.
  • Location and hours: The testing clinic is located at check-in counter 298, at the end of the US check-in area, pre-security in the Main Terminal, Departures level 3. They will operate from 5:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily.
  • Cost: The rapid-antigen test costs $129. This is at the passenger’s own expense.

Ultima Vancouver Airport Medical Clinic

Ultima Vancouver Airport Medical Clinic provides rapid antigen (Abbott Panbio™) testing. Booking an appointment is preferred, but walk-ins are accepted.

  • For: Individuals who need a test for travel or work purposes. This site is not for individuals with symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
  • Location & Hours: The clinic is on Services level 1 of the Main Terminal (below Domestic Arrivals). This area is pre-security, so passengers connecting from another flight will need to exit the secure area to locate the clinic. They operate Mondays to Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Cost: The rapid-antigen test will cost $120, at the individuals’ own expense.

What happens if you test positive?

If you test positive, you’ll be required to quarantine for 10 days before you can leave Canada. At Sunset Inn & Suites, we have set up a preferred guest special quarantine rate for the room that you are already in. This is ONLY possible when you book with our International Traveler’s Welcome Back rate. This Quarantine Rate IS NOT available if booked any other way or rate and would be subject to availability and best available rate

We guarantee that you will not have to leave the room that you’re already in.

  • October – April: $90 – $100
  • May – June: $110 – $130
  • July – August: $150 – $180
  • September: $110

Variance in rate depends on room type.

What to know during your quarantine.

You must remain within your hotel suite and follow the following procedures:

You may only leave your hotel suite to undertake essential errands, such as obtaining medication as approved.

  • If you must leave your hotel suite for an essential errand only, you must minimize the amount of time you are away from the hotel and let front desk know when leaving and must inform our front desk upon your return immediately after completing the errand.
  • Food & Provisions including a wide variety of restaurant meals, may be obtained through a variety of delivery services that are available and brought directly to your suite door.
  • We suggest this delivery company that will deliver anything you need to your room 24 HOURS A DAY, such as groceries, alcohol, clothing, food, or other items as they will go to any stores you prefer to purchase and deliver to your suite
  • Breakfast may be ordered directly by calling the front desk each morning for Deluxe Continental Breakfast option that gets delivered to your door.
  • *Any items required in the suite such as towels, toiletries etc. may be obtained by calling down to the front desk during business hours 9am to 3pm and will be delivered to your front door. In reverse any items you wish to have removed from your suite may also be taken away during the hours of 9am to 3pm, with sheets and towels placed in black garbage bag given.

All items will be placed upon a stand that will be placed outside of your door to suite until quarantine complete
