Yet another exciting event coming to our city for another year which will be a load of fun for all those attending. Canada, Argentina, Australia, England, Fiji, France, Japan, Kenya, New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, United States and Wales will all be featured and participating in this year’s tournament.
The Canada Sevens is a two-day indoor rugby sevens tournament, hosted March 9–10, 2019 at the world-class BC Place Stadium, host venue to Canada’s most prestigious events, featuring 16 of the world’s top men’s sevens teams. HSBC Canada Sevens Vancouver is the sixth stop in a 10-stop world tour as part of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. Sevens rugby, a fast-paced and shorter version of traditional rugby with only seven players per side, has built a huge international audience through the success of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, which attracts large audiences in markets around the world. The 2019 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series kicked off November 29th in Dubai, and the full ten-stop tour schedule of the 2019 Series can be found here (including the stopover in Vancouver.)
With over 30,000 fans attending in the first year and then another 40,000 the following year in attendance, this tournament is a real treat to watch, with a party-like atmosphere and some great games to see, it really shows how the rugby backs play their game, the games are short, the speed and tempo is fast and really is putting the world of rugby sport on the world stage!
While in Vancouver, all teams will be playing all of their matches at BC Place and it’s safe to say that the hometown crowd will definitely be backing up Canada. Then again, since this is a world-class event, there will most likely be fans from all over the world cheering for their teams! Who will you be cheering for?
