WHALE WATCHING SEASON
Although the Whales start to become visible in the coastal waters of BC around the beginning of March the official Whale Watching Season for guided tours runs from April to the end of October.
There are various Tour operators that you can use to spend a day out at sea to catch these Whales. Reservations for these tours can be made directly with us at the Front desk of the hotel.
The Georgia Strait is home to many species of incredible marine life, so if you are visiting Vancouver during April & October and you are here for a few days why not get out to the ocean to witness these impressive animals.
You will likely get up close and personal with Orca Whales (Killer Whales), Humpback Whales, Dolphins, Porpoises and Birds such as Gulls, Birds of Prey and more…
Critically endangered Orca Whales
The Georgia Strait is now home to a population of just 70 to 80 Orca Whales that inhabit the waters of the Georgia Strait between Vancouver, Vancouver Island, the Gulf Island and the Strait of Juan de Fuca which is located on the coastal waters of Canada, the US and meets the Pacific Ocean. The Whales that you will see are whats left of this dwindling population of the most iconic Whales we know and love. Due to overfishing and noise pollution partly due to a massive increase of industrial tankers and climate changes it is becoming obvious that this is now taking a toll on these animals and they are know on the endangered list. These Whales are actually a large extended family, or clan, comprised of three pods: J, K, and L pods.
There are many environmental groups who are closely tracking and following these Whales and are hoping with more interest from tourism and other ecological societies that these Whales will continue thrive. Talk to your tour operator for further information on how you can help!
