We will recommend some of the best places to eat and see that Davie village has to offer.
JIM DEVA PLAZA
Jim Deva Plaza is Vancouver’s first pavement-to-plaza project. Located on Bute Street in the heart of Davie Village, the space was created by redesigning the block into a single continuous smooth surface that invites people in to sit and spend time relaxing in this busy urban centre. This unique community gathering space features a variety of seating and the iconic “megaphone” soap box, commemorating Jim Deva’s extensive advocacy work in free speech and gay rights. Jim sadly passed away suddenly in 2014 at age 64 was a co founder of the Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium on Davie Street.
He battled censorship by taking the federal government to court when it stopped gay and lesbian books from crossing the border into Canada in the late 1980s. A true giant among the LBGTQ community the Plaza was built to honour his memory and work within the heart of Davie Village. It is a great place to hang out on a warm sunny day where you will be treated to buskers and even buy Art from local vendors.
The plaza is also home to a mix of fun activities and local events – check them out here: http://westendbia.com/neighbourhood/jim-deva-plaza/events-schedule/
