Vancouver Fringe Festival – September 6 – 16, 2018

Coming September 6 – 16, 2018, yet another Vancouver Fringe Festival will be happening on Granville Island.

Do you plan on attending the festivities this year?  If you plan on coming, we would love to have you stay with us, so make sure you contact the hotel directly in order to receive our best rates for the duration of your visit to the city as well as to the Festival.

The humble beginnings of the Vancouver Fringe Festival started in 1985 and happened in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood and the opening ceremonies occurred in the parking lot of a local supermarket.  Weird, eh?  I guess that’s what it means to fringe – Maybe?  By 2001, the Fringe Festival relocated to it’s new home – Granville Island.  It even included a parade as a part of it’s opening ceremonies and it went against the flow of traffic – Maybe that’s another reason as to what it means to fringe.

The Fringe employs an “everyone is welcome” selection technique – The Mainstage shows are literally drawn out of a hat, giving all artists, from novice to veteran, a chance to participate.  Vancouver Fringe Festival Mainstage shows feature some of Vancouver’s best venues including the Revue Stage, Performance Works and the Waterfront Theatre, all situated on and around Granville Island.  The Bring Your Own Venue (BYOV) category allows artists to stage original work in unconventional places.  The Fringe strives to break down traditional boundaries and encourage open dialogue between audiences and artists by presenting live un-juried, uncensored theatre in an accessible and informal environment. All artists receive 100% of regular box office revenues generated during the Festival.

On Wednesday September 5th, a “Fringe-for-All” happens.  This includes every artist that is participating in this year’s festival where they will do what they can to entice you to see their show in two minutes or less.  This two-hour preview will be fast AND furious, how’s that for pressure?  With more than 100 shows to choose from, this is something that you won’t want to miss!  Not to mention, don’t miss a minute of the fun! Join us for hors d’oeuvres and desserts from the Keg and Dockside Restaurant, catch up with old friends and meet new ones as you plan your 11 days of Fringing!

So as summer comes to close, what do you have planned?  Do you want to check out the Fringe Festival?  We don’t think you will be disappointed with the Fringe and we hope that you choose to stay with us.

Book now and until then, “Happy Fringing!”
