Vancouver – Hollywood North, a place perhaps like no other. Well, okay, we’re exaggerating just a little but our city of Vancouver, British Columbia has been known to be many places besides our own. If you ever want to check out the scoop as to what’s happening in and around these parts, there’s a really amazing site that can give you the inside track as to what’s happening and you can check that out here.
Perhaps while you’re checking out our Hollywood North, you will want to stay with us. Did you know that we have an online promotion going on between October and the end of November? We have a “CYBER” sale happening right now when you book there, you can save up to 25% off our best available rates. Check it out here! We would absolutely love to have you!
Actors, directors, producers and so much more come up to our city and surrounding areas each and every year to work on either feature films or even feature movies. Vancouver in years past has been a booming city for Hollywood North and this city has “disguised” itself to many other cities such as: Seattle, Portland, Boston and even parts of Los Angeles. Did you know that “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” and parts of it was filmed here and we were made to look a little like somewhere in Russia? Moscow, to be exact. Each and every year there are over 200-plus films and shows made and even produced here. Vancouver has a canny (in a good way) ability to be any city that it wants to be almost to the point where it can be somewhat like a chameleon.
Who remembers “MacGyver” with Richard Dean Anderson? No, not the new series but the original series? That was a huge thing that was done here back in the ’80s and ’90s where Vancouver and the surrounding areas were used to portray so many other locations (especially Los Angeles). What about the “X-Files” phenomenon? Chris Carter was enamoured with Vancouver and it’s ability to disguise itself by being the ‘burbs of Washington DC, Virginia and so many other areas across the United States. Unfortunately due to David Duchovny and his unhappiness with the non-stop and ongoing rain, David and co-star Gillian Anderson moved the series back to LA for it’s final season. However X-Files fans can rejoice that with the reboot that the show has returned to our city. Did you know that the actor that played “The Smoking Man,” William B. Davis is Canadian? He’s from Toronto but we’re glad to call him an honourary Vancouverite. Don’t forget that the “truth is out there”. Somewhere.
The now infamous film “Deadpool” and “Deadpool 2” with Vancouver’s own Ryan Reynolds were both filmed here and Vancouver scenes are very prominent in both films. See if you can notice some Vancouver highlights in both films especially in the second installment.
There is an endless list of so many great films and movies that have been done here. To name a few more:
- The A-Team (with Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper)
- The Butterfly Effect (with Ashton Kutcher)
- Double Jeopardy (with Tommy Lee Jones and Ashley Judd)
- Happy Gilmore (with Adam Sandler)
- Insomnia (with Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Hilary Swank)
- Jumanji (with Robin Williams)
These are just a few of the films that have been done in and around these parts. The infamous producer and director and the late Stephen J. Cannell (the executive producer formerly of 21 Jump Street (where Johnny Depp got his start before the “Pirates of the Caribbean”), The A-Team, Hunter among many others) was the first to recognize Vancouver’s potential to become a central hub for film and TV. Maybe that’s why we became known as Hollywood North, we can thank Mr. Cannell for that.
So… Are you ready to come up to Hollywood North? I’m sure that you will find some Hollywood stars hovering around our streets.
