Davie Village and The West End Gay District.

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

The Sunset Inn and Suites is located in the gorgeous West End Community of Vancouver – this area fills the void between the Downtown core of the city and Stanley Park.

Our location is situated in an area called Davie Village which is in the heart of the Vancouver Gay District of Vancouver. The Village spans over 3 blocks along Davie St beginning from the Eastern Side at Burrard St and ending around Jervis Street to the West.

In 1999 The Davie Street Business Association decided to phrase the area as ‘Davie Village’ and in the process they decided to give the neighbourhoood an uplift by installing colourful Rainbow flags (the official symbolic flag for Gay Pride)on one side of the post, with the other side showing artwork from a local artist called ‘Joe Average’.

We will like to highlight the very best of the Davie Village area so you know where to go for good food and entertainment right on your door step.

A guide to the Best Restaurants in the area…Pt 1

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

Vancouver is such a foodie city, we are quite literally spoiled for choice when it comes to the variety and volume of establishments to dine in around the city.

The staff at the Sunset Inn and Suites do love to show off the best restaurants in the vicinity, and please believe us when we say the restaurant is good, because it really really is!

Below you will see a list of the wide variety of Restaurants. bars and cafes that are on offer in the area, take a look at the best of Davie Street Restaurants…

JAPANESE
Vancouver is undoubtedly dominated by Japanese cuisine and we thank our lucky stars too as this food is truly delicious. Everywhere you look, you will see various Sushi and Japanese style restaurants all across the city. Not only are they specific to the Japanese community, you will likely come across Asian Infusion in your regular Western Establishment too, such is the influence on the city.

Try Downtown Sushi, Kadoya and Sky Sushi

Also a really great alternative and a very well known Establishment in Vancouver is Guu (Izakaya) Which is Traditional Japanese Tapas, an incredible restaurant.

MALAYSIAN
A favorite and something that is very different is Malaysian Cuisine, this style is closely related to Thai flavours in the sense that the food is very Aromatic, with a great use of Spices and Herbs to really make the Dish come alive.

Try, The Banana Leaf, there are 2 locations, one on Davie Street which is quite large and located a stones throw from the hotel, or you can try the original location on Denman Street, here you get a more tropical and traditional vibe to the restaurant.

ITALIAN/ PIZZA
If you are looking for a great Pasta dish, you have to look no further than Cafe Luxy this restaurant has an extensive menu of delicious Pasta dishes and very tasty wines to compliment the dish.

PIZZA is absolutely EVERYWHERE! So where on earth do you go to find some decent Pizza…

On Davie you have a few options to choose from….HELLS PIZZA – this is not your ordinary Pizza, its a devilish twist with a New Zealand kick…..do it!
MEGABITE PIZZA located directly behind the hotel on Davie, you can order a simple slice for a couple of bucks, or check out their specialty Pizza.

We do have so much more here….please check next weeks blog for more, or simply ask at the desk for recommendations.
